Welcome! I'm going to share with you 4 DIY skin care recipes and 1 tip all using green tea. You liked my DIY pore strips so I'm bringing you s'more. How did I come about this? Well, I was cleaning out my cupboards after Christmas and I found a box of my previous roomie's vanilla and green tea teabags. I love green tea but I really don't like vanilla. I'm just not a fanilla...sorry. Anyway, the taste is subtle but totally there and it's yucky. But instead of throwing them out, I got creative.
Now this isn't about to turn into one of those Pinterest posts where it brags about antioxidants this and cancer fighting that. It's 2016. If you don't know how amazing green tea is then why have you been living under a rock?! Just Google it to read all about the acne-fighting, cancer-preventing, blood-pressure-lowering, cholesterol-reducing goodness.
Sorry I just had to get it in somewhere!
So these 4 DIY skin care recipes and 1 tip all using green tea. You can whip them up in your kitchen no problem and they will keep you going for about a week or so depending. On with the Green Tea DIYs then so!
GREEN TEA SKIN CARE:
☕️Green Tea Face Mask
I stumbled across this notion on Instagram actually. I've been hunting for a new weekly homemade mask for a while now because I've exhausted all my recipes and my skin is just being real crabby at the minute.
- 1 dry Green Tea bag
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- a little Honey
>Start by mixing the tea leaves and the baking soda together in a little bowl. Add a little Honey,a teaspoon at a time, until you get a thick consistency that will coat the back of a spoon.
>Cleanse face (and steam, optionally) before applying. Using a brush or your fingers, smooth the mixture over the skin avoiding the eye area beneath the brows. Leave on for 15 mins and rinse off in circular motions with warm water.
Why I love this mask is it's soothing and softening on the skin. My skin was smoother and brighter looking. You can also mix up a big batch of the dry ingredients and just use about 1 to 2 teaspoons of it with the honey when you go to do your mask.
☕️Green Tea Body Scrub
This one is delectable! You can use it all over your body and face too, just not at the same time as the mask as it exfoliates too. It would also make a really sweet gift too!
- 3 dry Green Tea bag
- 350g Sugar
- 7 Tbsp Olive Oil
- 3 Tbsp Honey
>Combine all the ingredients together and store in an air tight jar in a cool, dark place. (Pro tip: measure your olive oil first then the honey. The oil on the spoon means the honey won't stick and will just slide off!)
This is a really yummy, smoothing treat for your skin. Just don't use it before you use a self-tanner. This is great to use in the bath because the tea and the oil hangs around in the water for a little extra nourishment.
☕️Green Tea Toner
I was looking at my toner and was mortified at the ingredient list! My skin has been feeling a little dry lately and I put it down to my moisturizer but after a week of using this toner I'm already seeing a great improvement in the appearance of my skin.
- A spray/screw bottle
- Enough cold water to fill the bottle
- 1 or 2 Green Tea bags
>Measure out the water and boil it. Use one teabag per 250 mls of water you need.
>Add the teabag(s) to the freshly boiled water and let brew for 5 mins. Remove the teabag and pour into your bottle. Cool down and store in the fridge for a refreshing pick-me up!
☕️De-Puffing Eye Treatment
This is a really great thing to do at the end of a long day, especially since everyone is constantly starting at their screens. It's going to reduce puffiness and ease any irritation from eyestrain. Make sure you remove contacts and eye makeup first and don't use if you have any sensitivity or allergies!
>Steep 2 teabags in water for a couple of minutes. Ring out the water and place on a wee plate in your fringe for a about half an hour until nice and cold.
>Lie back, listen to some music and pop the teabags on your eyes for 15-20 mins. It will do your head and your eyes the world of good!
You can also just use the teabags you brewed your cuppa with instead of throwing them out. This is a really nice thing to do to just switch off and chill for a little while.
☕️Green Tea Drink
Okay so technically not a DIY but for the best results, You should actually consume the green tea and let it work from the inside out. If your not a fan then why not try switching that morning coffee for a cup of green tea? It doesn't have as much caffeine in it but it's still there! Try and get a couple cups in a day by swapping it for a naughtier beverage. And after a short while you'll soon be reaping the rewards in! Simply brew a bag in freshly boiled water for 2-3 minutes and enjoy!
