Revamp your resolutions

I love this time of year! Planning, dreaming, focusing on the near future. It's just so exciting! Now is when I set myself some goals to achieve for the year ahead but if you're like me, most of the time you've either forgotten them you've given up on them. It's really frustrating and it just gets me down on the whole year. However I have learned the secret to making and maintaining good resolutions. Wanna know it? Keep reading.


  • Your resolutions are too vague

So you have a list of resolutions that look a little like this: read more. lose weight. travel. You're already setting yourself up for failure! When you aren't exactly sure what you're attempting to achieve then you're going to stray and procrastinate and just forget aaall about them. Be specific. I want to read the entire Game of Thrones series in the evenings. I want to take up a new activity to lose 2 kgs steadily. I want to go to London, Paris and Berlin this year with my friends/family.

  • You've set too many!

You list is huge. You want to do all these things but don't forget there are only 52 weeks in the year and you've got a job and a family and friends to fit into this time too. Don;t give up on these resolutions! Indeed, why not work out a 3 year or even a 5 year plan? This is a great way to estimate where your life is heading. It doesn't have to be every tiny detail just keep it simple like: At the end of Year 1 I want to be fluent in italian, be able to drive and have a savings balance of €1000.  And so on so forth.

  • You can't remember them

Yeah I am guilty of this! Generally it starts out with an expensive new diary, painstakingly decorated with all my resolutions in the cover, precisely planned to the finest details but then I lose the diary and forget about the resolutions. Here's what I recommend: Revisit your resolutions at the start of each month and simply re-evaluate them. Ask yourself how are they going? Have you made progress? What can you do this month to work on them? Don't stress about them, Enjoy them! Make the most of your time.
