Maybelline Lash Sensational; Better than Benefit Roller Lash?
The Maybelline Lash Sensational unfortunately hit the shelves at the same time as the Benefit Roller Lash but was this a Drug Store Diamond In The Rough or is it better to leave it overlooked?
I picked one up to try it out and honestly review it before you dash out to buy it.
The Maybelline Lash Sensational is designed to grab and lift every layer of lashes (yes, your lashes have layers too!). Maybelline also have a new patented fanning brush and a liquid thin formula to coat every single lash.
How cute is this packaging? It's absolutely adorable! On first impressions there was no funky smell or clumpy goop on the brush. I was pretty intrigued by this freaky shaped brush too. You can see my first time to apply the mascara here in this video:
The application is pretty unique. You will see in the video I had no clue what way to manoeuvre the wand but I have since somewhat figured it out! You start at the base of your lashes with the inside of the curve (like you were attaching some false eye lashes) and as you wiggle upwards, twist the brush to fan out the lashes with the longer bristles. Believe it or not, the Maybelline Lash Sensational brush has 10 layers of bristles wrapped around it.
I think this will be my new second favourite mascara, coming in closely behind the Soap and Glory Thick and Fast HD Mascara. But after buying the Maybelline Lash Sensational, playing with it, snapping a few shots, I thought to myself; this looks a little familiar. Now I have an excellent nose for trends and when I spied the issue of ELLE with a freebie of the Benefit Roller Lash I walked straight by it. Something told me its just not all its cracked up to be. This Maybelline Lash Sensational reminds me very much of the Roller Lash but at a steal price of £7.99 from Superdrug or Boots (compared to the £19.50 of the Roller Lash).
The texture is actually a nice liquid that doesn't set too quickly so you can move it around, clump and unclump until your hearts content. I honestly think one coat is sufficient. More would result in a very thick looking lash line but one coat is amazing, almost like I'm wearing falsies.
As for the removal, It's a little tricky. I use the Garnier Micellar Water at the moment and it removes a little like it is actually waterproof, even though it isn't. But it won't leave you looking like a panda mid-process, it'll all swipe off in a few wipes.
However, this minor difficulty pays off in terms of lasting powers. It doesn't flake off or dribble in the rain and as for absent-mindedly rubbing your eye? That worry is a thing of the past! (well, for your mascara anyway, sorry cat-eye flicks.)
To sum it up; I am really impressed with this mascara. I would definitely purchase the Maybelline Lash Sensational again and more so over the Benefit Roller Lash. It lasts well without flaking and smudging, the formula is easy to apply and correct if needs be and the brush is pretty darn funky! Did I mention the gorgeous packaging?!
You did well on this one, Maybelline! Hats off!
