How to "Teatox": My First Impression of Slendertoxtea
For this post I thought I would share with you my initial Teatoxing experience. I started the 14 day cleanse yesterday morning, a rather risky move considering I will be clocking up a few air-miles over the next 2 weeks, but someone has got to do it! But I will walk you through my morning then I will share my diet and exercise plan so bare with me!
In my Introduction to "Teatoxing" I talked a bit about what it is, what it involves and a bit about the company, Slendertoxtea, that sponsored me the product to try out. If you're reading this with the intention of doing a teatox I highly recommend you read my Introduction to "Teatoxing" first to learn about potential health risks and side effects (plus all the lovely, happy, cute things too!).
Upon rising, I did my little morning thing, then stuck the kettle on. Just before the water was boiling, I filled my cup and popped my Daytox tea bag in as instructed. The tea brewed just smelt quite natural...it wasn't unpleasant nor overpowering, just like any other herbal tea. Also it didn't have a strong taste either and it was easy to drink. I brewed it for about 2 to 3 minutes but you can do it longer or less for a stronger/weaker flavour and cleanse-intensity. You can slightly taste the fennel which is a little like liquorice. It went down a treat and I went about the rest of my usual morning routine; yoga, shower, breakfast Click here to get my recipe for Blueberry Overnight Oats (pictured below).
Now I would just like to tell you my intentions for the Teatox. I always think when you make a change in your lifestyle you should set some goals or results you hope to achieve. You can use this to keep you motivated and on track! For me, it's not like I want to lose loads of weight or something so I made my intentions accordingly:
- To have more energy
- To zap any bloating
- To "reset" my sugar, caffeine (etc) levels in my body (for a while I have been running on just coffee and tea and cake, lol)
And of course there will be a little weight lost, preferably inches. But I have my goals in mind and I even took a before photo too but I doubt there will be a visible result.
Of course weight loss will come from the result of an improved diet and better exercise. You can download a copy of Slendertoxtea's recommended eating plan here. To be frank (I have been saying that waaay too much lately!) their eating plan is rubbish. Let me explain why: at the bottom of the list you will see a list of foods to avoid. Literally everything except potatoes, fish and veg. You eat no animal produce (eggs, meat, milk etc), no sugar, no salt or caffeine, no processed foods or wheat products such as bread cereal etc. Of course you're going to shed a ton of weight eating just fish, potatoes and veg. Also, how boring is that? There is a method to their madness however, certain foods contain some funky stuff, I could talk all day about food but that's not why you're here, is it? Things like sugar, salt, caffeine and meats (particularly red) and artificial/processed foods. We eat these on a daily/weekly basis and we become dependant on them. When was the last time you went 2 days without coffee? how banging was your head? Yep, dependant. Sugar is the bad guy for me. It's not like I eat tons of sweets, but I do eat white pastas and flour in breads and cakes almost daily. I try to limit myself because eating too much or too little and I get the shakes and very sleepy and irritable. So thats why I hope this 'tox will help reboot my sugar levels. Don't worry I read well into the tea and the ingredients before I started so I felt comfortable using it with my body. You should do the same! If you're unsure, just do what I do below!
My eating "plan" is a little different to theirs. I'm still keeping their concepts in mind but I won't be so strict. This is only going to take 14 days out of my whole life and I don't plan on becoming vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free or any other major diet changes. I just thought about my current diet and made a few changes to make it healthier. I eat really well as it is, I can't remember the last time I had a pizza! (Okay, Okay you did see me in Mc Donald's over the weekend but yolo betches! That was my first Micky D's in at least a year so no judging. I also make all my own meals, breads and desserts from scratch so I know what goes into my body. I am also a social drinker, if I go to the pub with my friends I'll have an alcoholic beverage but I rarely have more than one, same goes for drinks with dinner. Soda and lime, if you please!
My diet alterations:
- no late-night eating (i.e. after 7pm)
- Keep portion sizes small (I'd rather eat a little of everything then gorge on one thing!_
- Opt for more veggies over white carbs (pasta, bread etc)
- No tea or coffee (noooooooooooo!)
- No refined sugars (i.e. chocolate, cake etc(high sugar content))
- 2+ litres of water a day (I already do in or around this amount but you need to drink lots when you're detoxing to keep your system moving)
- No meats
- Also, no crisps or crap like that (high salt content)
Of course it would be impossible to stick to this, things happen in your life like birthdays or dinner parties so just make more conscious decisions and don't be too hard on yourself.
In terms of exercise, Slendertoxtea leaves you hanging. There's no recommendations just 2 YouTube videos that any Tom, Dick or Harry could search for (hello, Blogilates?!) So basically what I'll do is increase my exercise, and go for an extra half hour walk. I do yoga every morning upon walking up, anything from 10 to 40 minutes using videos from Yoga with Adriene. That is the height of it really! Except on days when I'm feeling like cray motivated then I will do a 7 Minute Workout from this app. You can do it whenever you have 7 minutes to spare which is pretty damn cool! And of course a half hour dander through the vines in the afternoon sunshine (um, bliss?!)
As for the effects of my first day of teatoxing, both teas were nice to drink, no strong taste or immediate effects which was nice. I must admit I did sleep like a log last night! But that could have been for numerous reasons. Yesterday, whether it was the tea or I was just feeling a little run down, I felt like I was coming down with something (or just getting over something?) I was soooooo wiped! I actually spent some of my afternoon just lying down watching New Girl. Well around noon I had what I can only compare to as really bad period cramps? I did go to the bathroom and sat there crying out WHY MEEEE LORD which helped a little (jk it wasn't that bad) but I did feel uncomfortable and tired all day so I really had to slog through my to do list. As for this morning I am still waiting for this miraculous boost of energy (any time today please?!)
If you ask me it's so far so good! You will hear about the final result after my 14 days are complete. As for my impression of Slendertoxtea; I think their eating plan is useless and pourly thought out (Have they even heard of a balanced diet? That shht wasn't made up for no reason! Their fitness advice is pretty useless too. They give you a structured 14 day tea routine and (crappy)diet plan but no actual advice for working out? Whaaat? Do I do these videos everyday? Do I do the videos twice? Can I do anything else? So clueless. I also feel the packaging (as pretty as the blue and pink is) is a little weak. The tea bags could appear a little less sidestreet dealings in china town and a little more like their competitors such as Tiny Tea and Bootea. There is also mistakes in the ingredients lists, they are the same on both packets but different from the website? Hmmm.
Anyway, we shall see how this goes! You can purchase the 14 Day Teatox from Slendertoxtea here.
