Review: MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer
MUA's Lip Lacquers are said to be an affordable dupe of Lime Crime's Velvetines. Both promise a liquid application of colour which dries matte and is touch-, smudge- and transfer-proof. At £3 it's hard to say no to MUA's Lip Laquer! Here's what you need to know:
I picked up the colour Funk when I was going through my Hot Pink Lip phase about 2 summers ago. My sister and I love MUA because we got more bang for my waitressing buck however our local Superdrug is usually pretty poorly kept with damaged testers and empty shelves. We found this on a whip, a few new lipgosses wedged behind some eyeshadow palettes. It was the packaging that did it for me!
A matte black cardboard packaging with shiney gold curly font on it oooozes glamour and if that wasn't enough, check the tube! Frosted glass? Check. Silky smooth feel? Check. Gold labeling? Check. This is a lipgloss(matte?) tube that Kim Kardashian would be proud to tote around.
I am a lover of matte lip looks and I can easily turn anything (even eyeshadows!) into a matte lip look, yes I am that good! (If I do say so myself, haha!) Anyway, promising a richly pigmented, silky smooth lip colour, I thought I'd give it a go.
its a liiiittle finickety to apply, there's alot of product on the applicator so to get a smooth, even edge is a little tricky. What's worse is if you mess it up it won't remove as cleanly as lipstick so you will need to reappy foundation around it. I would recommend using a brush to get your edges neat then go gor gold with the applicator filling in the rest. It feels kind of weird once its on, like you don't want to move your lips until its dry. Once it's dry it won't budge.
I really like this colour. It's a really vibrant, fusia pink. It's so much fun! Buuuuut you can't apply any kind of gloss or lip pencil or stick or colour because it will make the colour patchy....speaking of which, did somebody say swatches?!
If you have even the slightest bit of dryness on your lips (like me, as you can see!) this colour will cling to it and make it look flakey and patchy so definitely apply on moisturized lips. Also, if you eat or drink it will wear away a little unevenly, even after a few hours of wear. Bonus points for how long it lasts on its own!
If you want to touch up then you're going to have to take it aaaaaaall off and start all over again.
Funny story... I wore this to the cinema once, after the movie I looked like I had tried to eat pretty pink fish food. NIGHTMARE! I tried to reapply it in my phone screen and it got worse and worse and I almost cried and took it all off and went with some lipbalm. Scary stuff.
My overall verdict is I love this product when my lips are in good nick and if I'm doing something with NO eating or drinking. There is also a huge variety of shades too so I am definitely going to pick up some more colours! For £3 how could you say no?!
