Nothing feels cozier than a seasonally spiced version of your favourite hot drink. I love stopping in a coffee shop and picking up a paper cup filled with the good stuff but what about when I don't want to change out of my fuffy PJ bottoms?!
For today's Blogtober post I'm sharing my favourite flavoured cream to add to my coffee (or hot chocolate?). Who doesn't like salted caramel?! You can whip this up on the weekends and keep it in the fridge to top off your morning coffee. This recipe makes approx. 750mls of creamer.
- 160g brown sugar
- 150mls water
- 1/2 tsp vanilla sugar/essence
- 2 pinches of sea or Alpine salt, separate
- 250mls whole milk
- 250mls full cream (alternatively, skip the cream but double the milk. You're missing out though!)
1. Make a caramel syrup
On a medium heat, dissolve the brown sugar and a pinch of salt in the water. Don't boil! This should only take a few minutes. If your using vanilla sugar add it to the brown sugar before the water, if your using vanilla essence it goes in later.
2. Combine the final ingredients
Pour 250mls of the caramel syrup into a bowl. Either keep the leftovers for something else or just discard it. Once cooled a little, whisk in the other pinch of salt (and vanilla essence) to the syrup. Add in your milk and cream and give a quick stir.
3. Store it. Serve it. Enjoy it!
To store, pour it into a jar or a sealable container and keep in the fridge. It will keep as long as your milk/cream carton states so be aware of that! Don't freeze it either, that's just weird. I simply make up a cup of black coffee, skipping the milk and sugar and going straight in with my caramel creamer!
You get a delicious, creamy coffee with a warm, sweet caramel taste which is subtle enough to enhance the coffee but not sickeningly sweet. it goes down a treat in my house!
